Managing people and resources, taking ideas through to execution can be taught and learnt. But not leadership. It is true is that more leaders can be created if we create the right environment to foster the characteristics of learning, reflection and experimentation.

The global experience of the last two years has brought out the best in us, as well as the worst. Being a coach or a mentor is a serious responsibility – to leave a legacy for a new, more intelligent, more capable generation of leaders, who in turn must play the same role in the future so that the relay race is always run well; at all times.

Tension between work and influence, family and enjoyment, settle into equilibrium that is suited to each individual, no one can or has ever had it all.

If someone were to see my daily calendar, they would notice a host of time slots blocked, but kept blank on purpose. These sections are called “buffers” or “emergency zones” – time periods that are purposefully kept clear of meetings or appointments, or any specific slotted activities.

Good times and bad times, times of prosperity and times of difficulty, times when the future looks secure and times when we did not know where our tomorrow would come from………..in one way or another, life has been a roller-coaster ride for each and everyone of us.
