🚀 Smartphones have become almost like an extra limb these days — can you imagine trying to live without yours? And if you’re an iPhone user, well, you’re holding one of the world’s most recognizable tech trophies. Sure, it’s “Designed by Apple in California,” but guess where a good chunk of the magic actually happens?
🚀 While China used to be the undisputed factory floor for these devices, India has quietly joined the game, assembling a large percentage of all iPhones globally. Not bad for a country that only started ramping up production seriously in the last five years!
🚀 And Apple isn’t stopping there — the company wants to make India an even bigger piece of the puzzle. But why is this shift happening, and what does Apple’s production map look like around the world? India isn’t just a new pit stop for iPhones or electronics —it is quickly becoming a main stage.
➡️ ➡️ Why the big move? For starters, India offers a large, young workforce that’s getting more skilled every day. Plus, the government has been rolling out the red carpet with incentives like the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, making it more attractive for companies like to invest heavily. Let’s face it: Apple is giving a huge boost to India. But, Apple or no Apple, the global manufacturing game is changing and India’s right in the middle of it.
⭕ ⭕ As a nation, if we continue to remain at the lower levels of assembly, we may end up continuously playing catch up. In electronics, each new model requires critical changes to its electronic components, requiring a fresh round of investments in specialized machinery required for high speed production.
✳️ ✳️ More and more companies are adopting the “China Plus One” strategy – basically, keeping one foot in China, but setting up shop in other countries too. And India, with its huge talent pool, democratic setup, and improving infrastructure, is quickly becoming that “plus one.”
